I want to share a core belief I have about software engineering culture: we should teach our new hires to use AI coding agents from day one. I believe every engineer, regardless of experience, can benefit immensely from integrating AI into their daily workflow.
A Profound Shift
The technological landscape has changed profoundly, even in just the last six months. What used to be fun demos are now practical, powerful tools that are useful on a daily basis. To put it simply, these tools have gotten shockingly good. I haven't been as excited, astounded, and amazed by a leap in technology in a very long time.
The Opportunity Before Us
By embracing AI for engineering, we have a massive opportunity to augment our own skills and free ourselves up for the most challenging and rewarding parts of the job: the complex problem-solving, the creative architecture, and the high-level design.
This is more than just a productivity hack. It’s an opportunity for our own growth, and for the company's success. The age of the AI-augmented engineer is here. Resisting it is no longer a viable option. Embracing it is the key to unlocking the next level of innovation.
